Santiago de Tolu or La Villa Tres Veces Coronada de Santiago de Tolu is a colombian municipality located on the caribbean coast, in the center of the Gulf of Morrosquillo, in the department of Sucre. It’s considered one of the oldest urban centers in Colombia. In 1535 was founded the municipality of Santiago de Tolu by the conqueror Alonso de Heredia and the captain Pedro de Velasco and Martinez de Revilla. During the colony it became an important outlet point for agricultural products (sugar cane). In the XVII century was its time of splendor because it had constant communication with Cartagena and other towns. Currently, its economy is based on fishing and tourism. Tolu is very attractive for tourists because it has beautiful beaches where you can practice aquatic sports.
