Santa Cruz de Mompox is a colombian municipality located in the department of Bolivar, on the western side of the Magdalena River. It limits with the municipalities of Pinillos and San Fernando. In 1959 it was declared a National Monument and in 1995 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The name Mompox comes from the great Cacique Mompoj (in Malibu language), who belonged to the Malibu Indians tribe that inhabited the area where the city is today. In 1811, Mompox was one of the first populations of the Kingdom of New Granada that proclaims the absolute independence of Spain. At that time, the city was very important because it was a port for travelers and for goods that went the interior of the country. Currently, Mompox's main economic resources are fishing, goldsmithing and tourism.

Arroz con coco
It's a sweet and sour dish that is accompanied by fried fish and it's served with slices of fried banana and salad. The white part of the coconut is liquefied with lukewarm water and it's filtered until there is only a white liquid that you can add brown or white sugar, depending on the color you want to have. The rice is boiled in this liquid and at the end you add salt and raisins.
