About Cali
Santiago de Cali is one of the oldest cities in Colombia. It was founded in 1536 by the conquistador Sebastián de Belalcázar. Before the conquest, Cali was inhabited by indean tribes such as the gorrones, timbas and morrones. During the firest days of the XIX century, cali will join the efforts to achieve independency from spain, and rised on July 3rd of 1810, making an alliance with neighbouring cities as was done by the natives in the Cauva Valley to oppose the spaniards decades earlier.Due to its location, which is ideal for the development of commerce, Cali began to transform into one of the biggest cities of the country at the beginning of the XXth century, in part due to the construction of new means of transportation - such as trainways and highways- which connect the city with the Buenaventura port, favoring the exportation industry. Present day Cali is a prosperous city, which is known as the colombian capital of the rumba and salsa due to the great number renowned schools that teach these dances.
About Tulua
Municipality of Cauca Valley department, Tulua is the fourth city in population of this famous valley. It's also known as the Heart of the Valley, due to its geographic location and Villa of Céspedes, in honor of a hero, during the Independence of Colombia, Juan María Céspedes. There are several tourist sites to see in Tuluá, mainly for their nature. The Parque Nacional Natural Las Hermosas has natural lagoons, paramos, canyons and it's the place where many rivers are born; you can also observe the flora (oaks) and fauna (spectacled bear) typical of the region. Another interesting option is the Parque de la Guadua Guillermo Ponce de Leon Paris, an artificial park with bamboo and guadua (a plant similar to bamboo), unusual flowers, a natural water pool and the Park offers the possibility of going through many trails. We can't forget to mention the Bothanic Garden Juan Maria Cespedes, located at 7 kms from Tulua's city, and where you can appreciate the flora of Cauca Valley. Regarding the gastronomy, we will name some delicious dishes that you can not miss: sancocho de gallina, morcilla and tamal. The chuletas del Cauca are exquisite escalopes of meat, also a delicacy. Tulua celebrates its most important festival in May-June, Tulua Fair, where you can find stockbreeder exhibitions, handicrafts, concerts and a very traditional cavalcade. Other celebrations that deserve to be mentioned are: Festival Internacional de Contadores de Cuentos y Leyendas (for stories tellers) and the Festival del Corazon Dulce (in June), Festival del Mate y el Guarapo (May) and the Festival de Cometas (Kite's festival) in august, among others.
